Shelter Cove, California & The Lost Coast

Shelter Cove is hidden on The Lost Coast and is the most breathtaking place we have ever been. Please check out our photo journal of our destination wedding vacation and see for yourself. The Lost Coast is the northern coast of California which is completely protected. Shelter Cove was established before the coast was protected and won a court battle to stay. We saw several black bears, sea lions, deer, and various wildlife during our vacation. We rented a vacation home right on the water and had a glorious view of the ocean, rocks and sea lions who lounged yards away. Deer walked through the yard while we were feet away and bears walked on the Black Sands Beach and paid us no mind. The animals are protected so they seem to be less afraid of people. The black sand at the Black Sands Beach was warm. The choppy dangerous water was cold. While swimming near the beach a sea lion pup swam up near my husband and played in the water about 20 feet from where he was swimming. I couldn't put into words how wonderful it was. Northern California stole my heart from the south for sure.
